  1. I don't really know what did Obama do since I am not an American. But he seems pretty unique and contradictory for me. He is first non-white president. He gain the most of the votes from American to become the president. I remember at the time that he is being elected, I was studying in an American public school, and all the black students in my school were really really excited that. They thought he is a sign that will become a start of big change in US.
After president Bush administration, the United State remained a lot of serious issues. However, President Obama didn't change it, at least not change that much. I don't really know what specific issues US were suffered about, but it is apparent that more and more finance news post on TV, newspapers and web. I heard more and more expert questioned to President Obama. He didn't really solve the old problems, and the new problems keep coming.
Maybe also because there is big problem in the US that only one President really can't change it. I don't know whether President Obama deserves four more years in office, but I don't think if other person become the winner in the coming election, he will make really big difference from President Obama.

  2. The first question that pops to my mind is why are these people spending so much money for these events? Ya I get that some of them might be for fundraisers, but it's ironic to me that one of the big problems with the government right now is how we don't have any money yet people are able to spend this kind of money just to hear the president talk. Anyways, I think that Obama has done a good job for what situations he has been thrown into. has he solved ever problem at hand? Hell no. I do think that he could take care of problems a little better too, but we all have different opinions and would deal with situations differently. However, we do need to look at the fact that congress could be holding Obama back with some situations he would like to handle and how he would handle them. I personally do not know the president's "accomplishments" list so it's hard for me to say if i agree that he has completed 60% of his goals. I will say that I think he has accomplished a substantial amount of tasks during his years of being a president, and I would personally be fine/ I would actually prefer if he was re-elected.

  3. As the first African American president, I think Obama carries too many expectations and pressure. Many thing he really did a good job ,but if there have some mistakes, many people accused him.I still remember the last year when he came to osu campus , many people wanted to see him and waited for a long time. Although there are still many problems in America, and we can see people in America organization the parade and protest in the last blog we discussion , I think he was a brilliant president, because he was special, and The United States is still The first power country.

  4. In 2009, Obama became the first black president in American’s history. He was elected by publics due to his distinctive personality. He is a strong speaker, who gave citizens confidence and hope. He promises rebuilding American’s economy. However, Obama’s tale breaks down and he loses supporters quickly just after 2 years’ office career. Economic recovery is still the biggest issue. The economic situation now does not change much since he got the position of president. In the article, ironically, Obama attended a dinner which cost around 35,800 dollars per person. The goal of economic recovery have not realize yet, but he lives a way of luxury. Instead of doing his duties for people, Obama seems to be controlled by the power he got. Though he claims he has accomplished 60% of his goal, the most important and main conflict has not been solved at all. Moreover, according to his behavior, I do not think he deserves another four years office’ right.

  5. I agree with Joe with the questioning of the high dollar amounts raised on his trip. How can the President of the United States go around and raise over $1.4 million by only talking about reelection with 40 rich Americans, while the average American is struggling to afford basic necessities. Some Americans even make less money in a year than what the celebrities paid ($35,800) to see the president speak.
Hopefully in the next election, the people will vote for a candidate more on what they stand for and not their story. Obama is a young, African American man with a beautiful wife and two young daughters. In the next election, people should look past his inspiring story and vote for him based on his views and goals for America. In 2012, people will hopefully look at Obama's successes and failures in his first four years, and place their vote on whether they think he will do a better job in his next term than the candidates against him.

  6. This article was very interesting. I have many opinions on President Obama's time in office. He stated that he has accomplished 60% of his goals in office but I don't know what those goals were. He states that he has accomplish 60% of his goals in the first 3 years he's been in office. To me that seems very fast because change take time. It can't just happen overnight. He then stated he hopes that the next 40% can be accomplished in the next 5 years, that doesn't make sense to me either since he has already "accomplished" 60% in 3 years. I would like to see the change he has accomplished. It does bother me seeing how he has attended 64 fund-raising events. We see celebrities support the president. But as a typical citizen I feel that I have not seen these accomplishments. For the next election I do not know if President Obama deserves another 4 years in office. At this point I will most likely not vote for him.

  7. First of all, I really don’t care too much about policy, neither in America nor in my home country. I still remember the appearance when he won the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign; his is young, full of confidence and with his black crew-cut style. But the picture of Obama on the posting website is totally different. He looks aging with the gray hair. He works extremely hard during his tenure in office. However, one of the biggest current issues—American Economy doesn’t recover too much deepening worldwide recession. The unemployment rates are getting higher. Maybe that could not blame everything on his economic policy, because the whole world economy is still in a hard time. That probably will be the one of biggest obstructs for Obama to be reelected. I actually don’t care too much about who will be the next president, maybe after world economy go through the recession for next couple year, he can do much more than for now he has done.

  8. America is going through a hard financial time right now. When Bush left office, the economy was in trouble, and all of the stimulus packages and bailouts Obama has given haven't exactly fixed the problem. The government still has not balanced the national budget, and the debt ceiling has already been raised during Obama's presidency. I'm not sure what goals he has already accomplished, but if he already completed 60 percent of them, they probably weren't very hefty goals. I'm not sure if I think he deserves another four years in office, because I don't know who the other candidates are right now, but I sure haven't seen all the change Obama promised America during his presidential campaign.

  9. Actually, as a foreign student, i have no idea about how many percentage the President Obama have accomplished his presidental goal or what was his president goal. But it seems interesting when you realized that Obama is the first African American president. I agree with George Chen, he must carries too many expectations and pressure. Because of the continued economic downturn, he got many blames. The demonstrations and protesters' actions in wall street all show American people's unsatisfied with the government. If Obama really wants his re-election campaign, i think he should do some things that real help the American economic.

  10. What I find interesting about the article is that there was a $5,000 price to be able to hear the President speak. It seems ridiculous that the government puts such a large sticker price on events where the people's President is speaking.

Futhermore, I find it interesting that he was using Eva Longoria as a figure at the event to get the approval of the Latin American communities. She said that Obama "speaks to the Latino community because he knows he's the president of all Americans." I always find it interesting how politicians continuously attempt to appeal to the pathos of the different racial and cultural groups in America.

  11. I agree with Joe and Aaron that people are spending way too much money just to hear the president speak. Most of the time, normal citizens can go to conventions or events like the one held at OSU last year for free to hear the president speak. It makes me wonder what they are also using all this money towards that they make off of the fundraisers. If it is going directly to his campaign and reelection, that is a poor use of the American money system. This money should be used in better places like helping our economy. I also do not feel that Obama has really done anything to help out America, it remains the exact same as it was before. Americans are still without jobs. He is right however, that his reelection will not come as easily as his first one.

  12. Since 2008, America has struggled with its financial crisis for years. Now it is still in the recession phase. When the first African American came out, the world was surprised. Dealing with a big awful situation left by Bush, I guess he devoted himself to make it better. In the article, Obama claimed he accomplished 60% of his goals. I did not know what he promised when he was in the election, thus I cannot say whether he did a good job. However the fact that one of the biggest problems, increasing unemployment rate, has not been perfectly solved. It results in a "Occupy the Wall Street" movement happened last few weeks. I would not deny his achievements, however I doubt his priorities. I am not sure if he is a good president, but I think if a new president come out, he or she probably would not changing the bad situation soon. In addition, he or she need time to adjust the new working environment.

  13. In my mind, Obama is one of the most admirable people. He became the first African American president a few years back, which I thought was a huge step forward of America. He is great on stage when making a speech. Maybe he is not the greatest president and has not solved the economy crisis. But the fact that an African American became the president really overwhelm the criticism that he receives. It is not like he has to solve every problems of the US, this job is extremely difficult.

  14. I think Obama has really sugarcoated his progress while he has been in office. First off, the main and most important problem, our economy, has yet to be fixed. Without him bringing us out of the recession, I really see it hard for him to get reelected. Yea he said that he completed 60% of his goals, but these goals were small ones. I'm not saying that these are not important, but he should have focused on the bigger ones first before completing all the smaller goals. Second off, has the war in Iraq really ended? I know that Osama Bin Laden has been killed in all, but with Americans still dying over there, you can not say that the war has ended.

  15. What I want to say is that at least he is not a lazy and bad president; however, from the results after his policies has been taken, we can see that he is still far away from a outstanding president. His ideas in health care reformation and finance regulation is good, but the resistance is too huge for those regulations to be implemented. I know people live in this desperate time will blame Obama about his ineffective policies; howeveer, it is his own fault. I believe what he says: we need time to recover american economy.

  16. Without a doubt, President Obama has faced severe criticism from the Republican Party and this criticism has been transferred to his success with Congress. Members of the left have referred to almost every major bill that President Obama has tried to pass to as a socialist agenda. Obviously, this type rebuke makes the President’s list of goals harder to accomplish in four years time. Many would argue that this rebuke is what a president should expect, as our government is set up as a system of checks and balances to protect it from the whims of the people. The constitution itself was even constructed from compromise amongst the founding fathers; which is clearly not occurring in our government today. On that note, I believe that President Obama has done the best he can to complete his presidential goals in a hostile Capital Hill environment. However, this lack of compromise cannot be used as a crutch by the Obama campaign and must be a renewed obstacle the President must learn to overcome if he wishes to be elected for another four years.

  17. I am not sure whether Obama has done 60 percent of his goal because I am a Chinese. Moreover, it is not polite to comment other country's politics as a foreigner. However, I think Obama really did something useful because the American economics has been improved a lot. I agree with Aleesha that each people need to pay 5,000 bucks to "buy" a ticket of Obama's presentation. It is so ridiculous, is the salary not enough for Obama? I think whether Obama really has done 60 percent or not depends on American people. It is not he said he did, then he did. I think if he has really done 60 percent of the goal, people will still choose him as president. So looking forward to 2012.

  18. The first question that I would like to ask people is that why are they spending so much amount of money to hear presidents speech, while people don’t have money to run their family but they can spend $5,000 to hear presidents speech. Moreover, I would say that according to the article Obama has done a good job as a president in the situation he became the president of USA. As the speech says that he has accomplished 60 percent of work and he would like to complete the 40 percent of work left by re-electing as the president. This point shows that how much he is focused in his work. In his campaign he said “Stand For Change” and I think he is giving all of his efforts to change the country.

  19. President Obama being proud of the 60 % accomplishment of him and his administration goals, I don’t believe that is an accurate thing to say. I believe he can do better. A lot of things at 1st he promise and did not fulfill right away, maybe because of the pressure he had, the lobbyists or because of the very difficult time of our nation went through and continue to go through especially when it comes to the economy and its conditions and its consequences. I still hope that he over turn all that before his term is up positively. If that happened I wish him a second term to finish up and leave a legacy when leaving the office.
